Monday, March 28, 2005

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka  —  Sri Lanka (search) withdrew a tsunami warning early Tuesday following a new massive quake off the Indonesian coast, saying it was unlikely that a devastating wave would hit the island.

"We have withdrawn the tsunami (search) warning as the time for the wave to strike has lapsed," P.M. Jayatilake told The Associated Press.

"I think it's safe for people to start going back home," he said.
