LONDON —  Britain's newly engaged royal couple Prince Charles (search) and Camilla Parker Bowles (search) received the blessings of their local priest at a church service near the prince's country home Sunday.

The pair joined a congregation of 34 people in tiny, picturesque St. Lawrence's Church (search) in the leafy village of Didmarton, close to Prince Charles' Highgrove retreat in western England.

"I prayed for their happiness together and that they may come to love one another more each day and more and more draw closer to God," the Rev. Christopher Mulholland said after officiating at the service, during which prayers were offered for the couple.

"People are very glad when two of the congregation have decided to get married. There was a great sense of good will."

Parker Bowles, wearing a green coat with dark-green lapels and cuffs, posed for photographs as she entered the church with Charles, who wore a light-brown coat.

After the service, the pair answered questions from waiting media, telling reporters they had not decided how they would spend Valentine's Day on Monday.

"Valentine's Day — that's another thought," Charles said.

The pair, who announced their engagement Thursday, will marry in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle on April 8.
