GI Demoted for Mud-Wresting at Iraqi Camp

Sunday, February 06, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. —  A change of command celebration at an Army-run detention center in Iraq (search) has landed a female soldier in trouble. The soldier was demoted from specialist to private first class and remains a guard at the Camp Bucca detention center (search).

The 19-year-old private was disciplined after being charged with indecent exposure following an October 30th mud-wrestling (search) incident involving female members of two military police units.

The incident occurred as members of a Florida-based Army Reserve unit prepared to turn over control of the camp to a North Carolina unit, of which the soldier was a member.

An Army spokesman says no prisoners witnessed the incident, but photos of the contest wound up in Sunday's editions of the New York Daily News.
