Three Marines Killed in Iraq Fighting

BAGHDAD, Iraq —  Three U.S. Marines (searchwere killed in fighting in western Iraq, the military said Monday in a statement.

The three, members of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, were killed "as a result of enemy action" on Sunday in Anbar province (search), which stretches from west of Baghdad to the Jordanian and Syrian borders.

The statement did not identify the three and gave no other details.

Including the newly announced deaths, 62 American soldiers have been killed in fighting across the country since April 4, when an uprising by a radical Shiite militia in the south and a Marine offensive on Sunni insurgents in Fallujah (search) began.
