NAIROBI, Kenya  —  More than 25 key suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with Al Qaeda's (search) deadly 1998 car bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.

Kenyan police and international security agencies arrested the suspects, mostly foreigners, in a recent security operation, a senior government official told a newspaper.

The suspects, who are also being questioned in connection with last year's attack on a coastal resort filled with Israeli tourists near Mombasa, include several alleged organizers of the embassy bombing who are wanted in the United States, National Security Minister Christopher Murungaru (search) told the East African Standard.

The minister, who did not identify the suspects, said Kenya does not plan to extradite them to the United States.

U.S. officials declined to comment and Kenyan authorities were not immediately available to confirm the report in the independent newspaper.

Some of the suspects were arrested in neighboring Somalia (search), which has no central government, the minister said.

The August 1998 car bombing of the American Embassy in Nairobi killed 219 people, including 12 Americans. A nearly simultaneous explosion at the U.S. Embassy in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania killed 11 people. Four men were convicted in the United States for the attacks and sentenced to life in prison.

The Nov. 28, 2002, attack on the Paradise hotel near Mombasa killed 10 Kenyans and three Israeli tourists.

Authorities blame all three attacks on Al Qaeda, the terror network of Osama bin Laden.

U.S. authorities believe there are hundreds of terror suspects in eastern Africa sought by authorities around the world, Marine Brig. Gen. Mastin Robeson, the commander of a U.S.-led anti-terrorism task force in the region, said earlier this month.
