Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) - France's Caroline Garcia upended top seed Jelena Jankovic, 6-3, 6-4, Sunday to win the Claro Open Colsanitas tennis event.
Garcia, seeded fifth, was in her first career WTA final. She also stopped Jankovic in her attempt to win this tournament for a second consecutive year.
The 20-year-old Garcia came into the final ranked 74th in the world compared to ninth for Jankovic, who was denied her 14th career title. The Serbian fell to 13-19 all-time in championship matches. Her win in this event last year ended a three-year title drought.
Sunday, though, was Garcia's to savor. She took advantage of six double faults from her opponent and finished off Jankovic in only 82 minutes.
