Kvitova, Kirilenko to clash in New Haven final

New Haven, CT (Sports Network) - Second seed Petra Kvitova will meet No. 7 seed Maria Kirilenko in the final at the New Haven Open at Yale.

Kvitova, the U.S. Open Series champion, advanced to her second final of 2012 by posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded Italian Sara Errani on Friday.

The 22-year-old Czech captured her eighth career title at Montreal two weeks ago and will look to add to her total Saturday against Kirilenko.

Kirilenko was leading four-time reigning champion Caroline Wozniacki when the former world No. 1 star retired from their semifinal bout, citing a right knee injury. The third-seeded Dane called it quits after her opponent took the first set, 7-5.

Wozniacki is now 20-1 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, where she had never lost until Friday. She beat Czech Petra Cetkovska in last year's New Haven finale.

The 25-year-old Kirilenko is 5-5 in career finals, including a loss in Pattaya City earlier this season. The Russian glamour girl hasn't secured a WTA title since 2008, a year in which she tallied three championships on the circuit.

Kirilenko lost to world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the bronze-medal match at the London Olympic Games earlier this month.

The winner of this $637,000 event will pocket $107,000.
