Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Argentina will play in the quarterfinals after whipping visiting Romania 4-1 in this week's best-of-five first-round Davis Cup matchup in Buenos Aires. In a pair of dead rubbers on Sunday, Argentina moved out to a 4-0 advantage with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory by Eduardo Schwank against Victor Crivoi, while the Romanians finally got on the scoreboard this week when Adrian Ungur topped Juan Monaco 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the singles finale on the red clay at Parque Roca. On Saturday in Buenos Aires, Schwank and Juan Ignacio Chela clinched the Argentine victory with a 6-2, 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 doubles triumph over a Romanian tandem of Victor Hanescu and Horia Tecau. Former Wimbledon runner-up David Nalbandian and Monaco were singles winners for the hosts here on Friday. Argentina, which has reached the Davis Cup quarters for a 10th straight year, improved to 2-0 all-time against Romania in Davis Cup competition, having previously captured a quarterfinal tie in their only other meeting 30 long years ago.
