Valencia, Spain (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov in Sunday's Valencia Open final.
The world No. 5 Ferrer won his hometown tournament for the third time after triumphs in 2008 and 2010. He was a runner-up in 2005.
"It's always very difficult to play at home," Ferrer said. "I knew it would be more difficult to win the title again. He's a very talented opponent. I played aggressively and it went well for me."
Ferrer captured his sixth title this season. He also prevailed in Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco, Den Bosch and Bastad.
Dolgopolov appeared in his third final of the year. He secured the U.S. Open tune-up in Washington, DC for his second career title.
"I'm happy to have reached the final, but maybe today I played worse," Dolgopolov said.
