Federer tops Isner for 4th Indian Wells title

Indian Wells, CA (Sports Network) - Roger Federer beat John Isner in straight sets Sunday to win the BNP Paribas Masters for a fourth time.

Federer needed 81 minutes to beat Isner 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 one day after knocking off rival Rafael Nadal in two sets to reach the final of the $4.695 million event.

It was Federer's first win at the tournament since he captured three in a row from 2004-06. He took home $1 million for the victory, his third of the season and 73rd of his career.

Isner, the 26-year-old American, was chasing his fourth career title and first of the season after beating defending champion and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic on Saturday.

Federer fired seven aces and saved three break points, winning 33-of-35 points on his first serve to improve to 3-1 against the 6-foot-9 American.

The Swiss star's only loss to Isner came in a Davis Cup shocker last month and he has rattled off 15 straight wins since then.

Federer tied Rafael Nadal's record of 19 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles.
