Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco each posted victories on Saturday to finish off Argentina's domination of Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
The Argentines had already wrapped up the best-of-five tie on Friday when Chela and Eduardo Schwank notched a doubles victory for an insurmountable 3-0 lead. Chela came back Saturday and earned a three-set win over Evgeny Korolev in the first reverse singles match before Monaco completed the whitewash with a straight-set triumph over Mikhail Kukushkin.
Chela, who did not play during Thursday's opening singles matches, rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win Saturday in the first dead rubber. Monaco, who earned the first point for the host country on Friday with a win over Andrey Golubev, finished it with a 6-4, 6-1 rout of Kukushkin.
This tie began on Thursday, a day earlier than originally scheduled, because of a would-be clash with government elections that will take place Sunday in Buenos Aires.
Argentina, a three-time Davis Cup runner-up, will next meet the winner between Serbia and Sweden in September's semifinals. The defending champion Serbs had a chance to wrap up that quarterfinal tie Saturday with a doubles win, but the Swedes stayed alive.
