Stars deal Jagr to Boston
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars have traded forward Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins.
The Stars acquired forwards Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne, as well as a conditional second-round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for the future Hall of Famer. The draft choice becomes a first-round selection if Boston advances to this year's Eastern Conference finals.
Jagr was in his first season with Dallas and has 14 goals with 12 assists in 34 games this season. He signed with the Stars as a free agent last July after appearing in 73 games for Philadelphia during the 2011-12 season.
"Jaromir Jagr produced as a consistent scorer for our team all year and we would like to thank him for his contributions to our hockey club," said Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk in a statement Tuesday. "With our eye to the future, we have acquired some valuable assets that we believe strengthen our organization."
The Bruins have been looking to add a veteran presence and last week thought they had acquired Jarome Iginla from Calgary, only to find out a few hours later that the Flames had instead dealt him to Pittsburgh.
Jagr, a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL's scoring leader, is still an offensive threat. He had 19 goals and 35 assists for the Flyers last season, his first in the NHL after three years in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.
The Czech native has 679 goals and 1,000 assists for 1,679 points in 1,380 games with Pittsburgh, Washington, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Dallas.
A nine-time All-Star, Jagr won a pair of Stanley Cup titles with Pittsburgh in 1991 and '92, and also captured the Hart Trophy as league MVP for the '98-99 campaign with the Penguins.
MacDermid made his NHL debut last season with Boston and has skated in eight games for the Bruins. The 23-year-old Connecticut native has six points in 37 games for Boston's AHL affiliate in Providence this season.
Payne, 19, just concluded his second season with Plymouth in the Ontario Hockey League and had 24 goals with 21 assists in 66 games.
