Habs ink Moen to four-year pact

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - The Montreal Canadiens signed forward Travis Moen to a four-year contract on Friday, which will likely keep him with the Habs through the 2015-16 season.

"Travis brings tremendous leadership to our club and is very appreciated from his teammates. He expressed his desire to remain with the Canadiens organization and we are very happy to have come to an agreement with him before July 1," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said. "He has a lot of experience and brings a physical presence to our group of forwards."

Moen, 30, notched nine goals, 16 points and 41 penalty minutes in 48 games for the Canadiens last season.

Since debuting in 2003-04, Moen has registered 52 goals, 55 assists and 681 penalty minutes in 570 career games with Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose and Montreal.

In related news, the Canadiens announced the hiring of Jean-Jacques (J.J.) Daigneault as an assistant coach on Friday. Daigneault played 16 seasons in the NHL -- six with Montreal -- and recorded 250 points in 899 regular season games. He posted 31 points in 99 career playoff games.
