Description: The Panthers running back Mike Tolbert will be used as a fullback at the start, but has the talent to play tailback, if needed, stated Ron Rivera on the NFL Network.
Insight: Tolbert may not produce many fantasy points in 2012 with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart doing most of the heavy lifting, but in keeper leagues Tolbert could be a nice future choice as there are questions whether Stewart will return next year.

4/3/2012 9:20:00 PM
Description: The Panthers are claiming that Mike Tolbert will be used as a fullback, limiting him mostly to blocking duties and an occasional short yardage carry on third down.
Insight: This announcent reduces the likelihood of Jonathan Stewart being traded but we're not sure it's really the best use of Tolbert's talent. This is a player who recorded eight touchdowns a season ago. If Carolina really does intend on using Tolbert merely as a blocker, his fantasy value will see a dramatic fall in 2012.

3/19/2012 11:47:00 AM
Description: Mike Tolbert has reached an agreement on a four-year deal with the Carolina Panthers.
Insight: Tolbert spent the first four years of his career in San Diego. Tolbert won't give you 1,000 yards but you can always count on him for touchdowns: he's scored 21 of them over the past two seasons.

11/1/2011 6:55:00 PM
Description: Appearing on NFL Network's Around the League Live, Jason LaCanfora suggested Mike Tolbert (hamstring) will resume starting and "get a lot of carries" this week against the Packers.
Insight: Ryan Mathews' status for week 9 is up in the air at the moment and the Chargers are optimistic about Tolbert's availability for this week. As long as he can pass his tests, he's being counted on for major touches. He does have a tougher match-up, but the workload gives him upside this week (as long as he can stay healthy).

Description: Mike Tolbert (hamstring, hand) was again absent from Chargers practice Saturday, and is officially doubtful for Week 8. Source: Michael Ghelkin via Twitter
Insight: He won't be active against KC, so get him out of your lineup. Ryan Mathews is on track to receive 25+ touches against KC's 25th ranked run defense.

10/28/2011 10:06:00 PM
Description: Chargers coach Norv Turner conceded Friday that Mike Tolbert (hamstring, hand) is not likely to play in Week 8. Source: Kevin Acee via Twitter
Insight: Ryan Mathews is projected to get anywhere to 24-28 touches against the Chiefs and is looking like a top 10 option this week. Tolbert owners will want to look to other options this week.

9/22/2011 5:20:00 PM
Description: Mike Tolbert (calf) was held out of Chargers practice again on Thursday. Source: Kevin Acee via Twitter
Insight: Tolbert's injury wasn't expected to keep him out this week, but it could get iffy, if he doesn't practice on Friday. This absence is bad timing with Ryan Mathews coming on as of late. He still is expected to play, but have a back-up plan ready.

9/13/2011 2:42:00 PM
Description: Mike Tolbert (knee) is fully expected to practice this week and play at New England Sunday. Source: San Diego Union Tribune
Insight: Tolbert passed his Monday tests and doctors have cleared him. He's a must in TD-only leagues, but he's a flex in other formats, since he's still in a timeshare with Ryan Mathews. There is upside though for sure.

9/11/2011 7:09:00 PM
Description: Mike Tolbert limped off the field with a lower right leg injury in the 4th quarter against Minnesota.
Insight: He was a red zone threat all game, scoring three touchdowns and notching 93 yards on 21 touches. Keep an eye on the injury, as Ryan Mathews would get the chance to establish himself.

1/31/2011 12:25:00 PM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert is expected to be tendered a first- and third-round pick this offseason. SOURCE: ESPN.COM
Insight: Ryan Mathews got the preseason hype, but Tolbert proved to be just as good, if not better, after rushing for eleven touchdowns in 2010. Both sides have reportedly been in talks about a new deal, which makes sense since Mathews didn't prove he can take the full load yet. For fantasy owners, it's going to be hard to predict how this backfield turns out. There are already rumblings of a "hot-hand" tandem.

1/2/2011 12:05:00 PM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert (shoulder, neck) has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
Insight: RB Curtis Brinkley will be brought up from the practice squad to take his roster spot. Tolbert is a restricted free agent heading into the offseason. (RapidDraft.com)

12/27/2010 6:52:00 PM
Description: The Chargers have ruled RB Mike Tolbert (shoulder, neck) out for Week Seventeen. SOURCE: SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
Insight: Tolbert proved to be a valuable fantasy asset in 2010, rushing for 735 yards and eleven touchdowns. For those who draft Ryan Mathews next season, make sure Tolbert gets on your roster somehow as insurance. For Week Seventeen, expect to see plenty of Mathews against the Broncos.

12/26/2010 5:27:00 PM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert was hit in the head in the 1st quarter of Week 16s game vs. Cincy by Bengals DB Reggie Nelson and lay motionless on the field for several minutes.
Insight: He's about to be carted off the field as the Chargers trainers aren't taking any chances with a neck/head injury. He does have movement in his extremities, so that's good news. Ryan Mathews will likely take the majority of the snaps the rest of the game.

12/17/2010 3:03:00 PM
Description: Mike Tolbert ran the ball 17 times for 46 yards and a score in Thursday?s night?s game against the 49ers.
Insight: Although rookie Ryan Mathews started the game, Tolbert was consistently fed the ball at or around the goal line. Facing a reeling Cincinnati team next week, he looks to be a good bet to score again.

12/13/2010 2:01:00 PM
Description: Tolbert carried 16 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, adding one catch for 13 more yards.
Insight: We should probably assume a carry split with Ryan Mathews the rest of the way, which limits the upside of both players. Look for Tolbert to be favored near the goal line, though, which makes him the better play. (RapidDraft.com)

12/5/2010 4:28:00 PM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert is active and ready to go against the Raiders in Week 13.
Insight: With Mathews still out and Oakland being in the bottom of the league in run defense, this is a GREAT week to start Tolbert.

11/29/2010 1:57:00 AM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert was taken to the locker room in the second half of Sunday night's Week 12 win over the Colts with some sort of a hand injury.
Insight: The good news is, he returned in the second half and scored a touchdown. The Chargers will re-evaluate him this week but chances are, he'll be ready to go in Week 13 vs. the Raiders.

11/23/2010 9:54:00 AM
Description: Chargers RB Mike Tolbert chipped in 153 total yards and a rushing touchdown in the win over the Broncos. SOURCE: NFL.COM
Insight: Tolbert carried the ball 25 times, showing he can be a lead back if given the chance. He was basically a bowling ball and fought for a lot of yards against the Broncos' putrid run defense. Ryan Mathews could be listed as questionable again, but Tolbert's real value hinges on Mathews' status going into Week Twelve.

11/20/2010 5:01:00 PM
Description: Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) is listed as doubtful against the Broncos after not practicing Saturday. SOURCE: SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
Insight: Mike Tolbert will get the start and play a big role against the Broncos, who are allowing 143.1 yards on the ground in 2010. Tolbert makes a fine RB2 this week.

11/1/2010 3:04:00 PM
Description: According to the Associated Press, Mike Tolbert played through a mild ankle sprain in the week 8 win against Tennessee.
Insight: It doesn't appear to be too serious, but he'll probably miss some practice time this week. He saw 15 touches on Sunday - the most since week four. Expect Tolbert to play an role in San Diego's RB committee. (RapidDraft.com)
