Description: Cleveland has released troubled wideout Davone Bess.
Insight: Bess (42 catches, 362 yards, 2 TD in 2013) was just too much baggage for the rebounding Browns to handle. His arrest back in January was likely the last straw. It could be difficult for the 28-year-old to find work if teams think he's unstable.
12/21/2013 3:40:00 PM
Description: Cleveland receiver Davone Bess has been placed on reserve/NFI list.
Insight: Bess will miss the final two games of the season to deal with a serious family issue. He finishes with a disappointing 42 catches for 362 yards and two scores.
4/26/2013 8:21:00 PM
Description:'s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Cleveland has acquired receiver Davone Bess from the Dolphins.
Insight: Bess posted respectable numbers in Miami last season (61 receptions, 778 yards) but he's far from a fantasy stud. In fantasy leagues, he's a late rounder at best.
4/24/2013 9:36:00 PM
Description: Draftinsider's Tony Pauline believes there's a "99.9 percent" chance the Dolphins will trade wide receiver Davone Bess to Cleveland for draft picks.
Insight: Bess (61 catches, 778 yards, one TD in 2012) would be more of a fantasy asset in Cleveland than he would be if he stayed in Miami. The Browns are expected to give up a mid-round draft choice as part of the trade.
12/21/2012 2:05:00 PM
Description: Dolphins receiver Davone Bess has just been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against Buffalo with a back injury.
Insight: Brian Hartline, also questionable with a back problem, and Bess have both suffered from the inconsistency of a rookie quarterback. Anthony Fasano was a solid Dolphins option last week and could be again this Sunday.

Description: Dolphins receiver Davone Bess has just been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against Jacksonville with a back injury.
Insight: Brian Hartline and Bess have both suffered from the inconsistency of a rookie quarterback.
12/14/2012 2:45:00 PM
Description: Dolphins receiver Davone Bess is doubtful for Sunday's game against Jacksonville with a back injury.
Insight: Brian Hartline and Bess have both suffered with the inconsistency of a rookie quarterback and the injury should force fantasy owners to sit him on the bench.
11/25/2012 5:33:00 PM
Description: Dolphins receiver Davone Bess caught seven passed for 129 yards Sunday against Seattle.
Insight: No. 1 receiver Brian Hartline only had two receptions in the game while facing top cover man Richard Sherman. Bess has received 20 targets over the past two games and 91 on the season to Hartline's 93.
8/3/2012 9:47:00 PM
Description: Davone Bess has been the Dolphins' best receiver so far in training camp according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King.
Insight: Bess (51 catches, 537 yards, 3 TDs last season) averaged 77.5 catches a year between 2009 and 2010 so he is already a well-known commodity in PPR leagues. He's never finished with more than 820 receiving yards in a season but maybe this will be the year he finally breaks that barrier.
12/27/2010 10:02:00 AM
Description: Bess caught five passes for 34 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Detroit.
Insight: Bess has become more of a red-zone option this season, and his four touchdowns for the year lead the team. Most importantly, he has proved a consistent starting option in PPR leagues despite not opening the year as a starter. (
12/6/2010 12:03:00 PM
Description: Bess led the team with six catches and 67 receiving yards in Sunday's loss to Cleveland. It was the fifth time this season that Bess finished with exactly six receptions.
Insight: Bess is as steady a PPR performer as a fantasy owner could hope for. Other players have more upside, but no one stands as a better example of knowing what you'll get. (
11/20/2010 2:03:00 PM
Description: Bess caught just one pass in Miami's Thursday night loss, but his five targets sat just one behind the number that tied Brian Hartline and Brandon Marshall for the team lead.
Insight: We'll see who's under center for the Dolphins the next time out, but things aren't looking good in general for the Miami passing game. (
11/7/2010 9:02:00 PM
Description: Bess caught five passes for 50 yards against Baltimore on Sunday, narrowly missing a touchdown when he got tackled inside the 5-yard line.
Insight: A nothing-special day, but Bess has caught five passes or more in every game but one this season. He has stayed a steady PPR performer. (
10/5/2010 2:02:00 AM
Description: Bess produced a game-high nine catches and 93 yards in Monday night's loss to New England.
Insight: Bess is a strong possession-type receiver and should come similarly in handy in other games going forward. He won't be useful every week, though. (
9/13/2010 10:02:00 PM
Description: Bess caught six passes for 51 yards in Week 1, drawing more than twice as many targets as any teammate other than Brandon Marshall.
Insight: There's been reason to wonder whether Bess would be marginalized with Marshall in town and Brian Hartline starting on the other side. He wasn't in Week 1, at least. (
8/28/2010 4:02:00 PM
Description: The Palm Beach Post confirms that Davone Bess has won the Dolphins' punt returner job.
Insight: Bess has value in PPR leagues only right now, so this would help him out in those that count individual return points as well. (
8/3/2010 10:54:00 PM
Description: Davone Bess is working as the No. 1 slot receiver in Dolphins camp.
Insight: He?ll still be golden in PPR leagues even with Brandon Marshall on the roster. It?s the rest of the receivers who are likely to suffer. (
5/30/2010 2:15:00 PM
Description: Coach Tony Sparano indicated that the "next best guy" will line up opposite Brandon Marshall this season.
Insight: Bess is probably the player most affected by Marshall's presence. He has some PPR league value, but he won;t be getting anywhere the action he used to with the Pro Bowler in the lineup. (
5/11/2010 9:39:00 AM
Description: The Dolphins have yet to inform Davone Bess of his role for the 2010 season.
Insight: Bess was greatly affected by the Brandon Marshall trade. His greatest value was as a PPR receiver, but Marshall routinely has over 100 catches a year, so there's no doubt whatsoever that he will be the primary target. (
3/20/2010 8:05:00 PM
Description: The Dolphins resigned Bess to a contract on Saturday.
Insight: Bess is turning out to be one of the better investments the Dolphins have made. He's a reliable slot receiver who is very valuable in PPR leagues. (
