Description: The Dodgers re-signed lefthanded reliever J.P. Howell on Tuesday.
Insight: ESPN's Buster Olney says the deal will pay Howell $11.25 million over the next two years. Howell is a terrific lefthanded specialist but he isn't a candidate to close next season. Fantasy owners don't need to pay much attention to him.

Insight: Howell posted a 3.04 ERA in 50.1 innings last season. He was utilized against both lefties and righties last season, holding the former group to a .200 average and the latter to .244. However, he won't hold any fantasy value in 2013.

Description: The Rays fully intend to use a committee of closers this season. SOURCE: MARC TOPKIN
Insight: No reliever in Tampa Bay currently has enough of a resume to be trusted with the full job. That could change during the season but right now it is a situation to avoid in mixed leagues.

Description: Howell closed out Friday's win over the Toronto Blue Jays for his 11th save in 16 chances.
Insight: Howell, who we predicted to save 18 games this season, may surpass his already somewhat lofty expectations. He has been, by far, the best arm in the Rays' pen. (

Description: Howell pitched a perfect ninth inning Saturday, notching his eighth save of the season.
Insight: Howell, who struck out two and lowered his season ERA to 2.01, is clearly emerging as the bullpen ace for the Rays. Keep riding the hot hand. (

Description: Howell tossed a perfect inning and struck out two to earn the win on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Insight: Howell, whose ERA stands at 1.52, is now 5-2 on the season. Clearly, he's been one of the top middle relievers in fantasy in 2009. (

Description: Howell tossed a perfect ninth inning in Sunday's win over the Washington Nationals to notch his third save of the season.
Insight: Howell, who sports a 1.95 ERA, struck out three. With Jason Isringhausen and Troy Percival on the shelf, Howell will get a lot of calls to close out games. He is a solid pick-up in all formats right now. (
