Description: The Athletics have recalled Dan Straily from Triple-A to start Monday against the Angels.
Insight: Brett Anderson (ankle) is being skipped in the rotation after allowing 20 hits and 17 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings over his last three starts. Straily led the minors in strikeouts last season and struck out 11 Astros on April 5 in his lone start this season, but he'll likely head back to Triple-A after Monday's outing.

Description: Despite a no walk, 11-strikeout 6 2/3 innings against Houston, Athletics right-hander Dan Straily will be sent to the minors.
Insight: Of course facing the Astros lineup is like facing a Triple-A team. Straily lost the battle for the No. 5 spot in the rotation to A.J. Griffin and likely won't be seen again this season until September or injury.

Description: Athletics right-hander Dan Straily will compete with A.J. Griffin for the final spot in Oakland's rotation. SOURCE: Athletics.com
Insight: Only Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, R.A. Dickey, Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez and James Shields had more strikeouts in professional baseball than Straily last season. The 24-year-old whiffed 222 across three levels. He attributed a lack of fastball command to giving up 11 homers in 39 1/3 big league innings and would certainly be of mixed league interest if he wins the rotation spot.

Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily was scratched from his playoff start with Triple-A Sacramento, and he flew to Seattle with the big league club, according to Joe Stiglich of the Bay Area News Group. Straily was demoted to the minors when Brett Anderson came off the DL, but he's a likely candidate to replace Brandon McCarthy in the rotation.
Insight: Straily went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts in August. He has 190 strikeouts in 152 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Owners in deeper mixed leagues should add the 23-year-old; the A's have had major success bringing up young starters this season.

Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento Monday to make room on the roster after Brett Anderson's activation from the 60-day disabled list.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, dominated in two of his three big league starts after leading the minor leagues in strikeouts this season. The A's rotation is simply too crowded for him.

8/5/2012 12:09:00 PM
Description: Athletics starter Dan Straily held Toronto to one run on five hits while striking out five and walking one in his first career start Friday and it's likely he'll remain in the rotation even when Brandon McCarthy returns. A.J. Griffin injured his shoulder Saturday and McCarthy is expected to fill the vacancy.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, registered a 175/37 K/BB ratio in 138 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He should be picked up in deeper leagues due to his upside.

Description: The Athletics have called up pitching prospect Dan Straily to start Friday.
Insight: Straily, a 23-year-old right-hander, registered a 175/37 K/BB ratio in 138 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He's someone to target in deeper mixed leagues, though he may be optioned again when Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson rejoin the rotation later this month.
