Description: Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar underwent Tommy John surgery one year ago and he threw live batting practice Monday.
Insight: Hochevar, the 2006 first-overall pick, can be a solid reliever when he returns but has limited value with fantasy stud Greg Holland in the closer's role.

Description: Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar will undergo Tommy John surgery, according to manager Ned Yost, ending his 2014 season.

Description: Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament and will be shut down for at least two weeks, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.
Insight: Manager Ned Yost said the best-case scenario is that Hochevar will be able to return by late-May or June, but he'll have to undergo Tommy John surgery if rest doesn't help. Hochevar, the 2006 first-overall pick, was a failed starter, going 38-59 with a 5.39 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP in his first six seasons, but he was excellent in relief last season, throwing 70 1/3 innings and posting a 1.92 ERAm a 0.83 WHIP and 82 strikeouts. The team was expected to give him another look in the rotation this spring, but that plan is out the window even if he is able to avoid surgery.

Description: Royals starter Luke Hochevar tossed a complete game shutout Monday night against the Rays, allowing just seven hits and one walk over 113 pitches.
Insight: He also matched a season-high by collecting eight strikeouts. Hochevar has now made it through at least 7.1 innings in each of his last three starts and hasn't given up a run since his outing June 14 against Milwaukee. Description: Luke Hochevar shut out the White Sox over seven innings of three-hit ball on Saturday. He walked one and struck out five to pick up his third win.
Insight: Hochevar rebounded after giving up 16 runs in 6 1/3 innings over his previous two starts. While he offers some upside as a former No. 1 overall pick, owning Hochevar is just too risky, as he's given up seven earned runs or more in three of his seven starts this season.

Description: Luke Hochevar went 6 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts against Cleveland on Wednesday.
Insight: Despite what his 4.98 ERA seems to indicate, Hochevar (2-1) has pitched well in three out of four starts this season. His four-inning, seven-run performance against the Indians on April 13 is what is keeping that ERA high. In the other three starts, Hochevar has given up five runs in 17 2/3 innings (2.55 ERA).

Description: Luke Hochevar's start has been pushed back because of a left ankle injury. He's now scheduled to start on Friday.
Insight: Hochevar has yet to show us he can be anything but a backup fantasy pitcher. he was 11-11 last year with a 4.68 ERA and 1.283 WHIP and this season hasn't gone very well either. At this point he should not be on any fantasy rosters.
