Description: Giants starter Jake Peavy lasted just 1 1/3 innings in Game 6 versus the Royals.
Insight: Peavy could not get out of the second inning as he allowed five runs on six hits. His downfall came when Alcides Escobar reached on an infield single because first baseman Brandon Belt looked back the runner at third base too long as Escobar beat him to the bag. In the next at-bat, Peavy jumped out 0-2 on Norichika Aoki but failed to put him away. Aoki's single scored another run and was the last batter Peavy faced.

Description: Red Sox starter Jake Peavy (finger) may not be ready in time for the start of the regular season, according to mlb.com.
Insight: Peavy suffered a deep laceration on his left index finger with a fishing knife. He was able to throw on Tuesday but hasn't been cleared to put his glove on. "We've got an opportunity to keep his arm moving, keep him in shape," said manager John Farrell. "He'll stretch a little bit with long toss today and the plan is for him to throw a bullpen tomorrow, without a glove. The precaution we have to take right now is making sure he doesn't perspire too much that may cause bacteria or whatever to get into the incision that's still closing up."

Insight: Peavy was scratched from a Grapefruit League start after cutting his finger with a fishing knife. According to Boston manager John Farrell, Peavy "almost cut through his finger," so he may have to miss more than one start. The good news is that the injury was to his non-throwing hand. "The fact is, we can pad that index finger to his glove hand," Farrell said. "It's nowhere near the impact had it been the other hand."
