Description: Angels reliever Jason Isringhausen is leaning toward retirement at the end of the season.
Insight: The 40-year-old hasn't been fantasy relevant in several years but during his prime, he was one of the most dominant closers in the game. His most impressive year came in 2004 when he saved 47 games for the NL Champion Cardinals. This season, Isringhausen holds a 4.14 ERA in 50 appearances. Overall, he's thrown 1007 and 2/3 innings during his 16 seasons in the league.

Description: The Reds have signed Isringhausen to a minor league contract.
Insight: Isringhausen apparently passed a physical with the Reds, but he is a longshot to contribute at the big league level this season. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports Isringhausen will work out for the Reds this week.
Insight: Isringhausen last pitched for Tampa Bay in 2009, but his season was cut short with an elbow injury and he underwent Tommy John surgery. He would almost certainly require a couple weeks in the minors if the Reds do sign him. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: The Angels have purchased Jason Isringhausen from AAA Salt Lake.
Insight: Isringhausen seems healthy, but won't be pitching in any setup or closing situations unless the Angels bullpen is struck with injuries. He'll likely be a sixth or seventh inning guy. He has no fantasy value at this time.

Cold5/26/2009 4:12:00 AM
Description: Isringhausen allowed two runs, one hit and three walks without recording an out in Monday's loss to the Cleveland Indians. He suffered the loss and blown save.
Insight: Isringhausen, who had not yielded a run in his first three outings of the season, looked dismal. He has been the subject of much fantasy talk this week, since he could be a guy that notches some saves in the wake of Troy Percival going on the shelf. (SportsBuff.com)

Hot5/19/2009 4:12:00 AM
Description: Isringhausen tossed a perfect ninth inning in Monday's win over the Oakland Athletics, his first outing of the season.
Insight: Isringhausen came off the disabled list Sunday and made his first appearance in a major league game since undergoing right elbow surgery in September, when he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. If Troy Percival goes down with injury at any time, perhaps Izzy may be in line for some saves. Keep an eye on his progress. (SportsBuff.com)

Hot4/2/2009 2:48:00 AM
Description: Isringhausen, added Wednesday to the 40-man roster, threw an inning in a Class AAA exhibition, giving up one run on one hit, striking out two and walking one, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
Insight: Izzy, still recovering from surgery, could find his way into the Rays' bullpen this season if he regains his old form. With Troy Percival's health and effectiveness in question, Isringhausen could be a dark horse to notch some saves at some point this season. (SportsBuff.com)

Steady2/15/2009 10:29:00 AM
Description: Isringhausen could return to the Cardinals with a minor league deal, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Isringhausen was the Cardinal closer for six years before running into injury troubles last season. He saved just 12 games and blew seven other save opportunities. With the Cardinal closer situation in flux, you should keep your eye on the 36-year-old. (SportsBuff.com)
