Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval singled, Hunter Pence doubled to score Posey, and Brandon Belt walked to load the bases. Travis Ishikawa then hit a double to right field to clear the bases. Lackey allowed just one hit over the next five innings. The Cardinals rally, however, fell short in extra innings.

Insight: The Cardinals skipped his last turn in the rotation due to a case of dead arm. Lackey has not pitched very well since joining St. Louis, 5.05 ERA in 46 1/3 innings, so he shouldn't be counted on anyway.

Insight: Lackey was horrible in 2011 (6.41 ERA in 160 innings) and he missed all of 2012, but the right-hander was revitalized in 2013 after getting in better shape and had a 3.52 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 189 1/3 innings. He has remained in good shape and should have an ERA below 4.00 again.
