Description: St. Louis reliever Jason Motte is set to have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. SOURCE: Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Insight: That should sideline him for at least the next 12 months. Edward Mujica's interim closer label can now be removed.

Description: Cardinals closer Jason Motte (elbow) threw about 25 times from 60 feet and then 10 times from 90 feet Tuesday and felt no pain, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: An MRI on April 9 revealed a torn UCL in Motte's right elbow, an injury that usually requires Tommy John surgery. The team gave the right-hander a deadline of May 1 to show improvement, and will likely extend that after Tuesday's session. There's a chance he'll be able to avoid surgery and return at some point this season, but it is slim.

Description: The MRI on Jason Motte's right elbow revealed a tear to his ulnar collateral ligament, according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.
Insight: The team will give him until May 1 to show improvement, otherwise he'll have Tommy John surgery. Fantasy owners should grab Mitchell Boggs if he's still available.

Description: According to Cardinals.com, righthander Jason Motte will have another MRI on his injured elbow on Tuesday.
Insight: That doesn't sound very encouraging and it's also worth mentioning that Motte hasn't thrown a single pitch since straining his elbow in mid-March. He'll regain the closer's role once he's healthy but for now Mitchell Boggs will handle the ninth inning for the Red Birds.

Description: The Cardinals placed closer Jason Motte (elbow strain) on the DL, retroactive to March 22.
Insight: Motte (42 saves in 2012) was expected to be a top-five closer in 2013, but elbow injuries are always a cause for concern, even minor strains of the flexor tendon. Mitchell Boggs is expected to serve as the closer until Motte returns.

Description: Cardinals closer Jason Motte has an elbow strain and is expected to start the season on the disabled list. The MRI analysis called it a mild strain, according to Derrick Gold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Insight: Motte (42 saves in 2012) was expected to be a top-five closer in 2013, but this injury should waive a huge red flag for fantasy owners. Mitchell Boggs is the most likely candidate to take over the closer role until Motte returns.

1/22/2013 6:51:00 PM
Description: Cardinals closer Jason Motte agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract to avoid arbitration.
Insight: Motte ranked fourth in our 2012 fantasy reliever review after saving 42 games with a 2.75 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 86 strikeouts in 72 innings.

10/18/2012 11:31:00 AM
Description: Cardinals closer Jason Motte should still be available for Game 4 of the NLCS despite picking up the final six outs of Game 3.
Insight: St. Louis manager Mike Matheny turned to Motte in the eighth and the closer blew away San Francisco for six outs on 19 pitches. Motte has recorded a win and three saves this postseason with a 1.23 ERA after saving five games with a 2.19 ERA in the 2011 playoffs.

5/15/2012 8:01:00 PM
Description: Jason Motte blew his second save of the year Tuesday by allowing a ninth inning solo home run to Alfonso Soriano. Soriano's solo shot knotted the score at 6-6 but Yadier Molina bailed Motte out with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Insight: There's no need for fantasy owners to be overly concerned about this rare flawed outing from Motte. The righthander is 6-for-8 in save chances this season and is still carrying a 2.45 ERA for the season.

Description: Cardinals RP Jason Motte has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained shoulder, two days after he had complained of irritation during an appearance. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: This injury hurts more in real baseball than it does in fantasy baseball.

4/28/2010 11:03:00 AM
Description: Motte picked up his first save of the season on Tuesday night, as he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings agains the Braves.
Insight: Normal closer Ryan Franklin has worked the previous two days, so he was given the night off. Motte may pick up a stray save here and there, but as long as Franklin is effective he isn't likely to get a lot of opportunities. He has a 2.08 ERA so far this season. (SportsBuff.com)
