Description: Kansas City has parted ways with veteran righthander Brad Penny. SOURCE: Jerry Crasnick, ESPN
Insight: Penny was having an awful spring training (15.75 ERA in two appearances) and the fact that he punched a wall and hurt his hand probably didn't help matters. The two-time All-Star hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2012 and we'd be surprised if he ever does again.

Description: Giants minor league pitcher Brad Penny's future with the club will likely be decided soon. If Penny isn't promoted to the major leagues he can ask for his release and seek an opportunity with another team.
Insight: With how well the Giants' rotation has pitched this season (with the exception of slumping righthander Tim Lincecum), there really isn't any room for Penny in the starting rotation unless somebody gets hurt. Penny is 0-0 with a 7.11 ERA in six appearances for Triple-A Fresno so far this season.

Description: Tigers SP Brad Penny tossed 8 shutout innings against the Royals, giving up just 5 hits; he struck out 2 to pick up his 4th victory.
Insight: This was a good outing for Penny but don't be overreact and rush to add him in mixed leagues. He is worth starting in AL-only formats but is not consistent enough to be anything more than a spot starter in mixed leagues.

4/8/2011 5:21:00 AM
Description: Brad Penny allowed four runs on six hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings last night.
Insight: Two homers did a lot of the damage. Penny pitched better than he did against New York in his first start of the season but still not nearly good enough to get fantasy attention. He is eating innings for the Tigers, he doesn't need to do the same for you.

Description: Jim Leyland refered to Brad Penny as the hardest work in Detroit's camp. SOURCE: JAYSON STARK
Insight: It's good to know that Penny is taking another chance at a rotation spot seriously but we won't get too excited until we see some consistent, positive results.

Description: The Detroit Tigers and free-agent right-hander Brad Penny have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3 million, plus $3 million in incentives. SOURCE: ESPN.com
Insight: Penny's value takes a hit here, as he is leaving the National League and the magic touch of Cardinals' pitching coach, Dave Duncan. HIs value is limited to AL-only leagues and occasional spot-start duty in mixed leagues.
