Insight: Burnett threw seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits, struck out five and walked one. His ERA was 1.66 coming into the game and somehow it dropped. Burnett is 2-1 with a 1.60 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in 45 innings this season.

Insight: Burnett is likely pleased that his team at least won this time as they scored a run in the top of the ninth and held on, 2-1, versus the Diamondbacks, but Burnett still doesn't have a win this season despite his 1.80 ERA. He pitched seven innings and allowed one run on five hits, throwing just 88 pitches.

Insight: Burnett allowed one run on eight hits in six innings on Monday versus the Cubs, but the Pirates only scored one run before the ninth inning. The bullpen took the loss as they allowed three runs in the seventh and another in the eighth. Burnett is 0-1 with a 2.00 ERA.

Description: Pirates starter A.J. Burnett pitched very well in his return in a Pirates uniform at PNC Park, but Tigers starter Shane Greene spoiled it.
Insight: Greene threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, struck out eight and walked two, but Greene pitched eight shutout inning as the Tigers won, 2-0. Burnett's two walks in the seventh led to the Tigers first run. Burnett is 0-1 but has pitched very well and supports a 2.25 ERA in two starts this season.

Insight: Burnett still has a player option for $12.75 million for next season, and will have a few more days to make that decision. If he does not retire, he probably would not fetch more than that on the open market.

Insight: He takes the loss and is now 8-18, making him the leaderi n loses for the National League. Burnett finishes 2014 with a 4.59 ERA. It will interesting to see if he retires or comes back for one more go-around.

Insight: The victory was Burnett's eighth of the season, but the right-hander has had a very disappointing season overall. He is 8-15 with a 4.29 ERA, 169 strikeouts in 191 innings this year. He has pitched better recently, going 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in his last three starts.
