Description: Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey allowed four homers over five innings in Monday's start against the Pirates.

Insight: The team is saying it's a mild strain and that Bailey's absence was merely a precaution. He should be okay for his first start of the regular season. That will probably come April 3rd against St. Louis.

Description: The Reds and Homer Bailey have agreed to a six-year, $105 million contract extension.
Insight: The deal includes a mutual option for a seventh year which carries a $25 salary or $5 million buyout. Bailey had his best season in 2013, winning 11 games with a 3.49 ERA (3.31 FIP) and 199 strikeouts in 209 innings. He has thrown two no-hitters since September 2012.
Hot9/3/2013 9:57:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey won his fifth straight decision with seven shutout innings Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Insight: Bailey evened up his record at 10-10 with Tuesday's victory, which saw him strike out eight, walk one and allow just two hits. The right-hander has a 1.27 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP over his last four starts.
8/29/2013 10:40:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey struck out seven batters and scattered five hits over 7 1/3 scoreless frames Wednesday at St. Louis to improve to 9-10.
Insight: Bailey lowered his ERA to 3.55 with the performance. He hasn't lost in his last six starts (4-0).
8/18/2013 6:39:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey limited the Brewers to three hits and one run over eight innings in a victory Sunday. He walked one and struck out eight.
Insight: Bailey has improved on most aspects of his game from his breakout 2012 season, including his K/9 (up 1.57) BB/9 (down 0.22) and HR/9 (down 0.25), but his 3.68 ERA is identical to last year.
7/31/2013 9:00:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati righthander Homer Bailey snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Padres Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park.
Insight: Bailey surrendered six hits and just one unearned run in 8 1/3 innings. His 6-10 record may suggest that it's been a tough season but Bailey's 3.55 ERA is actually the lowest of his career. Bailey's WHIP (1.14) is also a personal best.
7/21/2013 5:31:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey struck out 12 batters in 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Pirates, but he also allowed seven hits and three earned runs.
Insight: Bailey gave up two runs in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and ended up with his ninth loss of the season. The right-hander has allowed 27 hits and 11 earned runs in 18 innings since throwing his no-hitter on July 2.
7/2/2013 10:31:00 PM
Description: Homer Bailey did it again. The Reds ace tossed his second career no-hitter Tuesday against San Francisco.
Insight: Bailey's last no-hitter came in September against the Pirates. He's responsible for the last two no-no's in the major leagues. That feat hasn't been accomplished since Nolan Ryan did it for the Angels in 1974-75. The last time the Giants were no-hit was back in 2003 against Philadelphia's Kevin Millwood. Bailey's next start is Sunday against Seattle.
6/20/2013 7:12:00 PM
Description: Reds right-hander Homer Bailey struck out eight, didn't walk a batter and allowed six hits and two runs over six innings Thursday against the Pirates.
Insight: Bailey had a 2-1 lead going into the top of the sixth, but he allowed a game-tying homer to Pedro Alvarez. The right-hander is 4-5 with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.14 ERA in 96 innings this season.
6/4/2013 10:40:00 PM
Description: Reds right-hander Homer Bailey gave up six hits and three earned runs while striking out seven over seven innings Tuesday against Colorado.
Insight: Bailey was in line for the win but the bullpen blew it. He has been one of the worst-supported pitchers in baseball this season even though the Reds are one of the best offensive clubs in the National League. On the bright side, he seems to have figured things out at the Great American Ballpark. He's 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA at home this season after going 4-8 with a 5.16 ERA there last season.
5/19/2013 6:21:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati righthander Homer Bailey didn't allow a run in seven innings Sunday against Philadelphia.
Insight: Aroldis Chapman blew the save, leaving Bailey with a no-decision. The scoreless outing lowered Bailey's season ERA from 3.51 to 3.09. Bailey (2-3) finished with a 3.68 ERA in 2012.
5/14/2013 10:18:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey struck out 10 and allowed two runs on six hits in a complete-game effort Tuesday at Miami.
Insight: Bailey (2-3) lowered his ERA to 3.51. Last season, Bailey was a mess at home and dominant on the road, but he has done a reversal of that this year, going 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP at the Great American Ballpark and 1-3 with a 4.79 ERA and a 1.25 ERA on the road.

Description: Righthander Homer Bailey has agreed to a one-year, $5.35 million deal with Cincinnati. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBS Sports
Insight: By doing so, the two sides were able to avoid arbitration. Bailey established new career-highs in wins (13) and ERA (3.68) last season. His no-hitter against the Pirates on September 28th was the first by a Reds pitcher since Tom Seaver no-hit the Cardinals in June of 1978.
10/9/2012 10:46:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey dominated San Francisco in Game 3 of the ALDS Tuesday but he could not close out the series. Bailey fanned 10 Giants and allowed just one run on one hit in seven innings.
Insight: The Reds lost 2-1 in extra innings. Bailey has only allowed five hits in his last 20 innings, including a no-hitter on Sept. 28.
10/8/2012 9:11:00 PM
Description: Homer Bailey will be Tuesday's NLDS Game 3 starter for the Reds and not Johnny Cueto.
Insight: With Cincinnati up 2-0 and heading back home, the Reds are hoping they'll be able to save Cueto for Game 1 of the next series. Cueto, who has been dealing with back spasms, came out of Saturday's Game 1 after facing just one batter.
9/28/2012 9:30:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey fired a no-hitter Friday against the Pirates, fanning 10 and walking just one in a 1-0 victory. It was the seventh no-hitter in the big leagues this season and 15th in Reds history.
Insight: Of course, it came on the road. With Friday's no-no, Bailey improved to 9-2 with a 2.41 ERA away from the Great American Ballpark.
9/1/2012 10:12:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey turned in his best start in more than a month Saturday against the Astros, firing eight innings and allowing one run on three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Of course, it was on the road, where Bailey is 7-2 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
Insight: Bailey stinks at home, registering a 5.58 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 14 starts at the Great American Ballpark. Unfortunately, four of his last six starts have taken place there and he's likely to start at home three of his final five starts if he stays on schedule.
8/5/2012 4:41:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey allowed four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings Sunday against the Pirates to drop to 9-7.
Insight: Our theory that Bailey should only be used away from Great American Ballpark continues to hold true. The right-hander is 6-2 with a 2.63 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 10 road starts this season and 3-5 with an ugly 5.35 ERA at home. The Reds will begin a seven-game road trip Sunday, so Bailey is safe to use his next start, which will take place at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.
7/31/2012 10:26:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings Tuesday against San Diego and now has a 5.17 ERA in 62 2/3 innings at home this season.
Insight: It looked like Bailey had figured things out at the Great American Ballpark in his last two starts, but Tuesday proved why fantasy owners should only start Bailey when he's pitching on the road.
