(Sports Network) - Right-hander Lance Lynn aims for a third win in as many starts tonight when the St. Louis Cardinals try to complete a three-game sweep over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
In Wednesday's second game, Matt Holliday crushed a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning, sparking the Cardinals to a 9-6 victory.
Holliday, one day after homering and driving in four runs in an 11-6 win, smacked two round-trippers and drove in five against his former team on Wednesday.
His efforts allowed Jake Westbrook (10-8) to reach double-digit wins for the second straight season. Westbrook earned the victory despite allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings of work.
Tyler Colvin went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and an RBI for Colorado, which has dropped five in a row and seven straight at home.
The Rockies went ahead, 5-3, with four runs in the sixth, only to have their bullpen squander the lead in the next half-inning.
Matt Belisle (3-3) took over for fellow reliever Rex Brothers with two on and one out in the seventh, and his second pitch to Holliday was cranked deep into the bleachers in left-center for a three-run homer.
"We had runners in scoring position and I was just trying to get something that I could hit hard. That's really all you can do is just try to hit the ball hard," Holliday said. "It seems to be a good approach."
Meanwhile, Lynn, who split two decisions while making 18 appearances for the Cardinals last season, was an instant success as a starter this year and was 11-4 with a 3.41 earned run average heading into the All-Star break.
He's 2-0 in three starts since the intermission, defeating the Chicago Cubs twice while allowing 12 hits and six runs in 11 innings.
Lynn defeated the Rockies in his initial start of July with six scoreless innings of four-hit ball in a 6-2 St. Louis win.
In 12 road starts this season, he's 7-2 with a 3.84 ERA.
Colorado sends righty Alex White to the mound for his 11th start of the season and first in his career against St. Louis.
The 15th overall selection of the Cleveland Indians in 2009, White debuted for the Indians in 2011 and won his lone decision before heading to Colorado in a deal that sent Ubaldo Jimenez to the American League.
White was 2-4 in seven starts with the Rockies to end last year and lost his initial three starts in 2012 before breaking through with an 8-4 win at Miami on May 23.
He's won once in four decisions since, including a 4-2 loss at Texas in his most recent big-league start on June 24.
White was shipped to Triple-A Colorado Springs after that outing and earned the trip back after allowing a run on eight hits in his last 15 minor-league innings.
The Cardinals have won five of six games with the Rockies so far this season and have taken 13 of 19 overall since 2010. Colorado last won the season series in 2009.
