Final Score: Toronto 4, Boston 3
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Rajai Davis scored on an Omar Vizquel sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth, giving the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-3 win and a series sweep over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox, losers of 11 of their last 12 games, fell to a season-high 15 games below .500. Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury hit homers in the defeat.
On the heels of a four-game slide, the Blue Jays won their fourth game in a row. Vizquel drove in two runs, both on sacrifice flies.
Brandon Lyon (2-2) was the winning pitcher for Toronto. He came on with two away in the eighth inning and forced Pedroia to ground out to short to end the inning.
Clay Buchholz (11-6) was hit with the loss. He pitched deep into the game for Boston, lasting 8 2/3 innings, but gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks.
"It leaves a little bitter taste in your mouth, but that's the way it has been going for us lately and you have to take it," Buchholz said about the loss.
After allowing a base hit to James Loney in the bottom of the ninth, Toronto closer Casey Janssen retired the final three batters to earn his 20th save of the season.
Ellsbury gave the Red Sox the lead with a two-run homer in the second. Cody Ross walked before Ellsbury clocked his third homer of the season to right field.
The Blue Jays responded with a three-run fourth inning. Davis and Anthony Gose reached on back-to-back singles to the left side and Jeff Mathis delivered a base hit to score Davis from third. Gose, who moved to third on Mathis' single, scored on Vizquel's sacrifice fly.
Adeiny Hechavarria gave Toronto the lead with a single to left field that scored Mathis from second.
Pedroia tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth after blasting his 14th homer of the season over the left field wall.
Buchholz got Adam Lind to ground out to start the ninth inning, but then gave up consecutive singles to Davis and Gose to put runners on the corners. Buchholz then intentionally walked pinch-hitter Kelly Johnson to bring up Vizquel, who knocked in the go-ahead run with a fly ball to left.
Pedroia has hit safely in all but three of 33 games since Aug. 5 ... The Blue Jays were 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded six ... The Red Sox failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position and left four on base.
