Pirates activate Grilli from DL
Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates activated pitcher Jason Grilli from the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's road test against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Grilli racked up 30 saves and a 2.34 earned run average over 45 games as the Pirates' primary closer before landing on the disabled list on July 23 with a strained right forearm.
The 36-year-old right-hander made a pair of scoreless appearances during a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona, striking out four and scattering two hits without walking a batter in two innings of work.
Also Tuesday, the Pirates recalled pitchers Jared Hughes and Jeff Locke, outfielder Andrew Lambo and catcher Tony Sanchez from Altoona.
Locke, who appeared in his first All-Star game this season, was sent down to Altoona after giving up 16 earned runs in just 11 1/3 innings of work over his last three starts.
Hughes has pitched to a 2-3 record with a 4.44 ERA over 24 relief appearances with the Pirates this season, while Lambo made his major league debut on Aug. 13 and batted .211 with a double and an RBI in eight games.
Sanchez made his big league debut with Pittsburgh on June 23 and hit .220 with one home run and four RBI over 15 games.
