Nick Markakis also had two hits and Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy added an RBI apiece for the Orioles, who won both games of this rain-shortened series. Weather forced the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled game. Baltimore starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez (1-1) got the win, tossing five scoreless innings, as the Orioles have won five of their last seven. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out six in picking up his first win of the season. Rays batters were held to only six hits in losing their third straight and falling for the sixth time in nine outings. Tampa starter Jake Odorizzi (1-2) suffered the loss, yielding three runs on five hits in five innings of work. He struck out four and walked three.
Final Score: Cleveland 3, Detroit 2
Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Yan Gomes' early two-run triple and some deft relief work from John Axford staked Cleveland to a 3-2 victory over Detroit in the opener of this shortened series. Leading by a run in the bottom of the ninth, Axford gave up a one-out hit to Alex Avila, who was credited with a double and landed at third thanks to a Michael Bourn error on the play. He recovered to fan pinch-hitter Don Kelly swinging and then induced a game-ending groundout from Rajai Davis to earn his fifth save. Zach McAllister (2-0) won it, giving up a run on four hits over six strong frames. Miguel Cabrera knocked in both runs for the Tigers, with Anibal Sanchez (0-1) taking the loss by allowing two hits and three runs -- two earned -- over five full frames. He fanned eight but issued four walks.

Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Leonys Martin delivered the game-winning single to left in the home half of the ninth inning and the Texas Rangers rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners, 3-2, on Wednesday from Globe Life Park. Fernando Rodney (0-1) blew the save chance behind Felix Hernandez. Kouzmanoff scored the tying run on a wild pitch during Martin's at-bat, and Martin looped a base-hit to left to win it and give Texas a 2-1 lead in this four-game series. Yu Darvish, who hadn't allowed a run in 15 innings before Wednesday, started for the Rangers and gave up both runs on seven hits while striking out eight. Hernandez was charged with one run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven-plus frames.
Final Score: NY Yankees 3, Chicago Cubs 0 (Game One) Final Score: NY Yankees 2, Chicago Cubs 0 (Game Two)
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Pineda fired six scoreless innings to help the New York Yankees complete a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Chicago Cubs with a 2-0 victory in Wednesday's nightcap. Pineda (2-1) held a punchless Chicago offense to four hits and a walk. It was his third straight strong outing since returning to the majors following a two-year absence caused by shoulder problems. The shutout was the second of the day for the Yankees' staff, with Masahiro Tanaka yielding just two singles and fanning 10 over eight frames in New York's 3-0 triumph in the opener. The Yankees last blanked an opponent in both games of a doubleheader on Apr. 9, 1987, doing so against Kansas City. Scott Sizemore paced the offense in New York's fourth straight win by going 2-for-3 with an RBI single that scored Alfonso Soriano, who also finished with two hits. The Cubs, losers of four in a row and shut out in a doubleheader for the first time in 52 years, received a pair of hits from Starlin Castro. Travis Wood (0-2) limited New York to two runs despite permitting 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
