D'Backs, Reds, Indians work 3-team trade

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians have agreed to a three-team trade involving nine players.

The Reds have traded outfielder Drew Stubbs to the Indians for outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and infielder Jason Donald along with cash considerations.

The Indians also acquired shortstop Didi Gregorius from the Reds in the deal, but shipped him off to Arizona along with pitcher Tony Sipp and first baseman Lars Anderson in exchange for pitchers Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw.

Choo, the most accomplished of the nine players traded, will head to Cincinnati and replace Stubbs in the outfield. The eight-year veteran batted .283, hit 16 homers and drove in 67 runs over 155 games with the Indians last season. He also stole 21 bases.

Gregorius, regarded as one of the Reds' top prospects, will report to Arizona. In 129 games with Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Louisville, the 22-year-old Gregorius hit .265 with 21 doubles, 11 triples, 7 homers and 54 RBI.

In making the deal, the Indians acquired Stubbs -- a .241 hitter in his four big-league seasons -- and a highly regarded right-handed pitcher in Bauer.

The 21-year-old was selected third overall in the 2011 MLB Draft and made four starts for the Diamondbacks in 2012. He was named the Diamondbacks' Minor League Pitcher of the Year after recording a 12-2 record with a 2.42 ERA in 22 combined starts for Triple-A Reno and Double-A Mobile.

"He was a tough guy to part with," Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said of Bauer. "This kid's going to have a very good career. My hope is this a win-win for both sides with Cleveland and us."

Cleveland also received relievers Albers and Shaw in the trade. Albers finished the 2012 season with a career-low 2.39 ERA and a 3-1 record in 63 combined appearances for the Red Sox and D'Backs, while the 25-year-old Shaw pitched to a 3.49 ERA and a 1-6 record in 64 appearances for Arizona last season.
