NOTES
Generally, the start of the Florida swing signifies the beginning of the road to the Masters, but this week is all about the Europeans. For the first time since 1992 when it was Ian Woosnam, Nick Faldo, Jose Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros, European players occupy the top four spots in the world rankings. Martin Kaymer`s trip to the final of last week`s WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship earned him the new No. 1 world ranking. The eventual winner Luke Donald moved to third with Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell in second and fourth, respectively. With the exception of the new No. 1, the remaining three players are in the field this week. Ernie Els, Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar and Ian Poulter also highlight a strong field. Last year, Camilo Villegas shot a two-under 68 on Sunday to trounce the field by five shots. Anthony Kim got the honor of finishing second, but the whole week was about Villegas. With the Nationwide Tour making its debut in Villegas` native Colombia, he went down there and played a pro-am round during the week to support the first tour-sanctioned event in South America. Maybe battling a little fatigue, Villegas was able to collect his third PGA Tour victory and first since his back-to-back FedEx Cup playoff events in 2008. Golf Channel has the action on Thursday and Friday before NBC takes over on the weekend. Next week is yet another World Golf Championships event, the Cadillac Championship at Doral. Ernie Els won last year at the Blue Monster, but for those not eligible, there`s the Puerto Rico Open, which was won last year by Derek Lamely.
