Sandy postpones Central Connecticut State-Monmouth game

West Long Branch, NJ (Sports Network) - The Central Connecticut State at Monmouth football game will not be played Saturday due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, Monmouth officials announced Wednesday.

The two Northeast Conference schools are discussing the possibility of a makeup date, but the game likely won't be rescheduled because neither team has an open date through the end of the regular season.

Officials from both schools decided against moving the game to the CCSU campus, citing the safety of the Monmouth student-athletes as the major concern.

"We sent all of our student-athletes home before the storm to make sure they were safe," Monmouth director of athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil said. "At the current time, there is nowhere for them to stay on or off campus if they were to return. We explored every option, but ultimately the decision was based on student-athlete safety, and there are too many unknowns at the current time to move forward with playing the game at CCSU."

Both teams have games scheduled on Nov. 10 and 17, the latter date the final Saturday of the NEC regular season.

CCSU has 2-6 overall and 2-3 NEC records. Monmouth is 4-4 and 3-2.
