Two Appalachian State players ruled academically ineligible
Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Running back Quartterrio Morgan and tight end Trevor Sawyer have been dismissed from the Appalachian State football program after failing to meet NCAA academic eligibility standards, the university announced Thursday.
Morgan enrolled at ASU in January as a transfer from Western Kentucky. The 5- foot-10, 181-pounder from Jonesboro, Ga., was rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com coming out of high school in 2011 and did not play in a game during his time at Western Kentucky.
Sawyer, a 6-6, 225-pound redshirt freshman from Asheville, N.C., made the Mountaineers' travel squad as a true freshman last season, but was lost to a shoulder injury after two games. He received a medical redshirt and retained the year of eligibility.
ASU is coming off an 8-4 season, including 6-2 in the Southern Conference
