Moglia named head coach at Coastal Carolina
Conway, SC (Sports Network) - Coastal Carolina introduced Joe Moglia as its new head football coach on Tuesday.
Moglia, 61, spent last season as the head coach of the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks, posting a 1-4 record.
"I cannot imagine anything more rewarding in helping 18-22 year olds become men through football," Moglia said. "To have that opportunity at Coastal Carolina University is truly an honor. I am grateful to Dr. (David) DeCenzo and Hunter (Yurachek) for this opportunity."
Well known in the financial sector, Moglia is the current chairman and former CEO of TD Ameritrade, one of the largest online brokerage firms in the world.
Moglia's early football experience included stops at Lafayette and Dartmouth before he entered the financial sector following the 1983 season.
In 2008, Moglia stepped down as CEO to pursue coaching, volunteering as an assistant at the University of Nebraska. He was named the head coach of the Nighthawks prior to the 2011 season.
"Joe was a fantastic head coach of the Nighthawks. I have no doubt he will be incredibly successful leading the Coastal Carolina program to new heights. We are excited for him and the university," Rick Mueller, the Nighthawks' general manager, said.
Moglia will be the second coach in Coastal Carolina history. David Bennett was fired after a 7-4 finish this season and a 63-39 overall mark in nine seasons.
