QB Thorpe among James Madison suspensions

Harrisonburg, VA (Sports Network) - James Madison's nationally ranked football team is reeling from the indefinite suspension of starting quarterback Justin Thorpe.

On Monday, JMU director of athletics Jeff Bourne announced Thorpe and fellow redshirt junior Chase Williams, a linebacker, have been suspended from the team for a violation of JMU Athletics policy.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act prevents further comment by JMU on the circumstances of these suspensions. CSNWashington.com reported Thorpe's suspension will be five games for a failed drug test and that he is a repeat offender.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Thorpe, from Richmond, Va., has led the Dukes to a 3-1 start, including a 20-14 win over then-No. 6 William & Mary, 20-14, on Saturday. In four games, he has completed 32-of-48 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns, with two interceptions. He is second on the team with 163 rushing yards.

Williams, a 5-11, 210-pounder from Gaithersburg, Md., has played in two games, with three tackles.
