Former Delaware player dies in crash
Oldsman Township, NJ (Sports Network) - Former University of Delaware football player Manny Marshall was one of three people killed in a car accident Monday in southern New Jersey, the school announced.
Marshall, 24, a native of Cheverly, Md., was a defensive lineman for the Blue Hens from 2005-07, playing in 29 career games and starting on the squad that advanced to the FCS (former NCAA I-AA) national championship game against Appalachian State in 2007.
The accident occurred about 25 miles south of Philadelphia. New Jersey State Police said Marshall Jessie Jones, and Arthur Briscoe were killed when their car ran off Interstate 295, crashed into a tree and burst into flames. A 9- year-old boy was pulled from the vehicle and is hospitalized.
"Our prayers go out to Manny's family and friends," Delaware head coach K.C. Keeler said. "A tragedy like this affects the entire Delaware football family. Manny was a young man with a great deal of talent and really played a key role for us throughout his career."
