Elon gets transfer QB Smith
Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Former University of Maryland freshman quarterback Tyler Smith is transferring to Elon, according to a report.
The Times-News of Burlington, N.C., reported Sunday that Smith gained his release from Maryland and picked Elon shortly after visiting the school over Delaware and Division II Millersville (Pa.).
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Smith has four seasons of eligibility remaining.
A former prep standout at Wilson Area High School, Smith ranks second in Pennsylvania history in career passing yards (8,035) and touchdown passes (87).
Elon, which has a first-year head coach in Jason Swepson, is replacing Scott Riddle, the Southern Conference's all-time leading passer. Thomas Wilson finished Elon's spring practice as the first-stringer.
