Dartmouth's Memorial Stadium getting lights
Hanover, NH (Sports Network) - Dartmouth College will install lights at its football stadium, Memorial Field, and could play a night game as soon as this fall.
The Hanover Planning Board unanimously approved the project at a meeting on Tuesday night. Seven light towers will be installed at the stadium, which can host up to five evening events each year. The primary purpose of the lights will be to extend practice hours.
Rick Bender, Dartmouth's director of varsity athletics communications, said the football team may play one or two night games in a season and that one is being considered for this fall.
The Big Green's home games are against Colgate (Sept. 17), Penn (Oct. 1), Columbia (Oct. 22, Homecoming), Cornell (Nov. 5) and Princeton (Nov. 19). Bender said night home games would likely be planned for earlier in the season, when the weather is generally warmer.
The light project is funded by Dartmouth alum Chris Jenny and his wife, Andi, along with other donors through the Friends of Dartmouth Football.
