Rhode Island announces new coordinators Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Rhode Island football head coach Joe Trainer announced the promotion of two assistants on Tuesday, Roy Istvan to offensive coordinator and Ryan Crawford to defensive coordinator. Istvan has served as Rhode Island's offensive line coach since 2008. He will continue to work with the offensive linemen. Crawford has been the Rams' secondary coach and recruiting coordinator the last three years. Crawford will still work with the secondary, while linebackers coach Rapheal Dowdye will serve as the recruiting coordinator. Trainer also announced the addition of coaches Liam Coen (quarterbacks), Brian Vaganek (defensive line), Doug Borsari (assistant offensive line) and Greg Jones (cornerbacks) as the Rams completed their coaching staff for the upcoming 2011 season. Rhode Island football will open its season at Syracuse on Sept. 10. The Rams finished 5-6 overall and 4-4 in CAA Football last season. 03/22 13:36:50 ET |
