Lehigh to play strong 2011 schedule
Bethlehem, PA (Sports Network) - Lehigh football will play six home games in 2011 while it defends last year's Patriot League title.
Lehigh went 10-3 and reached the second round of the FCS playoffs last year.
The Mountain Hawks will play a strong non-conference schedule at Goodman Stadium. New Hampshire, which holds the FCS' longest active streak for playoff appearances (seven), will pay a visit on Sept. 10, followed by four-time defending Big South champion Liberty on Sept. 24 and Yale on Oct. 1. All three of those opponents won at least seven games last season.
The Mountain Hawks' other three home games will be Patriot League contests in November. They are against Holy Cross (Nov. 5), Georgetown (Nov. 12) and Lafayette (Nov. 19).
The Lafayette game will be the 147th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry.
Lehigh will open its 11-game season at Monmouth on Sept. 3.
"We have another outstanding schedule awaiting us in 2011," said Andy Coen, the 2010 Patriot League Coach of the Year.
Fordham is ineligible for the Patriot title, so Lehigh's Oct. 15 game in New York will not count in the league standings.
