Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Valparaiso University head football coach Dale Carlson promoted Robert Lee to defensive coordinator on Monday.

Lee replaces Tony Pierce, who took the defensive coordinator position at Gardner-Webb University.

Lee had been Valpo's special teams coordinator last season, when a 0-11 record extended its losing streak to a FCS-high 20 games.

Valparaiso, a Pioneer Football League member, named Chris Bowers as its new special teams coordinator and secondary coach. He spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons at Division II Concord University as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach last season.
