Pinkham to coordinate Elon defense

Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Ed Pinkham joined new Elon University football coach Jason Swepson's staff on Monday as defensive coordinator.

Pinkham spent the past three seasons as the secondary coach and two years as the co-defensive coordinator at Rutgers University.

Prior to joining Rutgers, Pinkham spent 12 seasons in charge of the defensive unit at Colgate University. During his tenure at the Patriot League school, the Raiders captured five league titles, earned five trips to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs and led the league in total defense four times.

In addition, former James Madison assistant Ron Mattes joined Swepson's staff as offensive line coach and Dan O'Brien came aboard as defensive backs coach. He spent the past four seasons as a defensive analyst and defensive graduate assistant on the staff of Nick Saban at the University of Alabama.

Elon finished the 2010 season with a 6-5 overall record and 5-3 mark in the Southern Conference.
