Furman hires Kitchings as offensive coordinator

GREENVILLE, S.C. - New Furman head football coach Bruce Fowler named Des Kitchings as offensive coordinator on Monday.

Kitchings, a former All-American and assistant coach at Furman, spent the last three years at Vanderbilt coaching alongside Fowler, who was the Commodores' defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. Kitchings served as running backs coach and running game coordinator before being promoted to offensive coordinator at midseason last year.

A receiver and return specialist at Furman before he graduated in 2000, Kitchings worked with the Paladins' tight ends and as co-special teams coordinator from 2004-07.

On Furman's 1999 Southern Conference championship team, Kitchings was honored as an All-America return specialist after leading the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) with a 35.1-yard average on kickoff returns.
