Northern Arizona's Souers gets contract extension
Flagstaff, AZ (Sports Network) - Northern Arizona has rewarded head football coach Jerome Souers with a three-year contract extension, keeping him at the school through the 2013 season.
Souers, who has served as head coach of the Lumberjacks since 1998, guided the school to a 6-5 mark this season, including a 4-4 record in the Big Sky Conference. During his time at Northern Arizona, Souers NAU made a record- breaking NCAA I-AA Quarterfinal appearance in 2003 while winning the first Big Sky Conference title since 1978. The Lumberjacks recorded two playoff berths and have posted eight winning seasons since he has taken over the helm, and he has posted a 72-75 mark in that span.
"Coach Souers has been an excellent fit for Northern Arizona University, building a lasting legacy at the university," school president John Haeger said. "His team members are first and foremost good students, and they're solid players as well."
