Elon's Hudgins, Campbell join arena leagues
Elon, NC (Sports Network) - Former Elon football standout Terrell Hudgins, the 2009 Walter Payton Award runner-up, has signed a contract to play wide receiver for the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League.
In addition, former Elon defensive lineman Andre Campbell has signed with the Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League.
In 2009, Hudgins led Elon to a 9-3 overall record and its first-ever appearance in the FCS playoffs on his way to finishing as the runner-up for the Payton Award, which is presented to the Football Championship Subdivision's outstanding player. Along the way the standout receiver caught a FCS-record 123 passes for a Southern Conference-record 1,633 yards.
Hudgins, who was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason, concluded his Elon career as the holder of 10 NCAA records, including nine set during the 2009 season.
The AFL season begins in March.
Campbell was a teammate of Hudgins' and earned first-team All-Southern Conference selection in 2009. He recorded 40 tackles, including 16 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks, during his senior campaign.
The SIFL season also begins in March.
