Jackson State coach fined, suspended
Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - Jackson State head coach Rick Comegy has been suspended for one game (Saturday, Nov. 13 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff) and fined $1,000 for violating the Southwestern Athletic Conference's sportsmanship policy, the league office announced today.
Following Jackson State's 32-30 loss to Alabama State last week (Nov. 6), Comegy let loose an expletive-filled tirade in which he accused officials of cheating his players.
"While the conference understands that Coach Comegy was leaving the field after a very competitive game and that emotional outbursts sometimes occur, the Conference office cannot condone this type of behavior," said SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp. "The integrity of Southwest Athletic Conference is something we cannot compromise."
