SWAC sanctions possible for Jackson State coach

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) - The Southwestern Athletic Conference could announce sanctions this week against Jackson State head coach Rick Comegy for a profanity-laced tirade following the Tigers' loss at Alabama State last Saturday.

Comegy's comments were caught on film and have since been posted on the internet.

While being asked by a sideline reporter about Jackson State's 32-30 loss, Comegy blasted game officials.

"I thought they (expletive) cheated that game, they took that (expletive) game away from these (expletive) kids, that's all the (expletive) I got to say," the fifth-year head coach said.

When asked a follow-up question, Comegy said, "I'm done, I'm done with it."

Tom Galbraith, the SWAC's assistant commissioner for communications, said the conference held a meeting Tuesday to discuss the situation and would inform Jackson State officials of any possible sanction before making a public announcement.

The loss to Alabama State dropped Jackson State out of first place in the SWAC's East Division.

The Tigers (6-3, 4-3) have two remaining games. They will visit Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday and host Alcorn State on Nov. 20.
