No. 4 William & Mary trips No. 2 Delaware
Williamsburg, VA (Sports Network) - No. 4 William & Mary knocked No. 2 Delaware from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 17-16 victory in CAA Football on Saturday.
Chase Hill caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from running back Jonathan Grimes and Drake Kuhn kicked the PAT, as William & Mary overcame a 16-10 deficit with 6:25 left in the fourth quarter.
William & Mary (6-1, 4-1) rallied from a 13-3 halftime deficit to win its sixth straight game. Delaware (7-1, 4-1) was off to its best start since beginning its 2003 national championship season with nine straight wins.
The Tribe started their comeback with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Mike Callahan to Alex Gottlieb with 3:51 left in the third quarter, which cut Delaware's lead to 13-10.
Mike Perry's third field goal of the game - a 20-yarder - extended Delaware's lead to six with 10:49 left in the fourth quarter.
Mike Paulus threw for 166 yards and Callahan for 93 for William & Mary. Delaware's Pat Devlin was 23-of-32 for 293 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown to Nihja White to give the Blue Hens a 10-3 lead in the second quarter. White led all receivers with 10 receptions for 146 yards.
In a competitive matchup, William & Mary held the ball for only four seconds more than Delaware. The Tribe have won the last three meetings in the series.
