Richmond's Corp to miss rest of season
Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - University of Richmond quarterback Aaron Corp will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury.
Corp was hurt on the first offensive series this past Saturday against New Hampshire and head coach Latrell Scott said Monday that the junior transfer from Southern California will undergo surgery.
"This is a tough situation for Aaron and our team and we wish Aaron the best as he recovers," said Scott. "But this season is far from over. I really like the fight our guys showed Saturday in a hostile environment and we have to keep that mentality this weekend at Massachusetts."
With sophomore John Laub also sidelined because of injury, Nick Hicks took over for Corp on Saturday and is expected to start again when the Spiders face Massachusetts this coming Saturday. Hicks, also Richmond's starting punter, will be backed up by true freshman Montel White.
Corp was expected to be the starter for USC before the 2009 season, but suffered a cracked fibula and lost the job to Matt Barkley. He appeared in three games for the Trojans last year and started one when Barkley was injured, but decided to transfer after the season.
Under NCAA rules, Corp did not have to sit out a year because he transferred to an FCS program.
