Valpo names Carlson head football coach
Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Valparaiso named Dale Carlson the 16th head coach in school history on Friday.
Carlson steps in for Stacy Adams, who resigned from the post back in November. In five seasons, Adams led the Crusaders to a 15-40 mark. The team went 1-10 in 2009, including an 0-8 mark in the Pioneer Conference.
"Coach Carlson has all the attributes we set out to find in our head football coach," said Valpo director of athletics Mark LaBarbera. "He has a proven record of success on the field, a commitment to the success of student- athletes, and an understanding on how to build a championship program."
The NAIA Independent Coach of the Year, Carlson led Ohio Dominican University to a 7-3 record last season, his sixth at the school.
Since taking over at Lakeland College in 1987, Carlson has accumulated a 110-103-3 mark with Lakeland, Taylor University, Tri-State University and Ohio Dominican.
